重點在於酒精濃度是否達70～75％，且要注意所添加的其他內容物是否會導致酒精濃度被稀釋，若濃度不足，即使用量再多，仍無法達到殺菌效果。有些人會DIY製作乾洗手，也要加入足夠的酒精濃度，才有殺菌力。乾洗手未使用時要保存在密閉空間、避免直接曝曬在陽光下，以免酒精揮發後只剩下水。通常只要放置常溫陰涼處即可。
