肥皂並不能殺死細菌，以肥皂和水清潔雙手，其原理是以水流通過手部帶走細菌，而使用肥皂是為了更有效率的讓手部的細菌脫落順著水流帶離雙手，並不能“殺死”細菌，的確以肥皂和水清潔雙手，搓揉15秒以上將能保證去除雙手99.9％的細菌，但並不會殺死細菌。
