雖然STR三步驟檢測中風的方式確實存在，但由於其涵蓋的面相不夠廣泛，因此美國中風協會不願為其背書。醫生也建議如果有任何中風的可能，最好還是立即送醫。光靠外在行為的判斷不能百分之百確定沒有中風，如果延誤就醫可能會造成無法彌補的傷害。
