為保障台中市民生命財產安全，台中市政府消防局積極推廣火災警報器，並採購1萬8千具「住宅用火災警報器」供民眾申請免費安裝；優先補助未裝設自動警被設備的舊公寓、弱勢族群居住場所、搶救不易地區建物等對象，消防局已列冊並委由婦宣隊訪視安裝，民眾也可向鄰近分局主動申請，如符合資格即能免費安裝；消防局也鼓勵自行採購安裝，保障居家安全。
