想要選擇領減額月退休金者，必須在退休時，已經符合退休當年度最早可以領減額月退休金的年齡，才可以選擇領減額月退休金，每提1年退休，扣減4%月退休金，最多提早5年，扣減20%。銓敘部舉例，如果小明在110年自願退休，年齡才50歲，未滿當年度最早可以領減額月退休金的年齡（55歲），因此，不可以選擇領減額月退休金；也不可以先退休選擇領展期月退休金，等到55歲再開始領減額月退休金。
