疱疹性牙齦口腔炎是一種由病毒引起的小兒口腔黏膜病，經常伴隨感冒或流感而來，其症狀輕重不等：起初口腔破皮，病童伴隨高燒、食慾不振、哭鬧，疑似感冒反應，服用退燒藥後發燒仍持續，少數會出現頸部下顎淋巴腺腫大。接著口鼻與下巴開始會起水泡，口內多處均患瘡腫，牙齦發炎，一碰就流血，最後可能導致嘴巴劇痛而無法進食、口臭、脫水。此病具傳染性，盛行於五歲以下，潛伏期三到五天，發燒可持續一週，水泡和潰瘍需十四天才會完全退去。
