在許多火災案例調查中，發現「關門」的動作可以有效阻隔火勢，如果在室內逃不出去，將門關起來，可以將火勢阻隔在外，爭取更多的逃生時間，如果起火點在屋內，逃離家門時將門關起來，可以將火勢侷限於屋內，減緩火勢的延燒速度，方便其他樓層的人逃生。
