寶德電的失敗，主要歸因於主要產品多晶矽的失敗。台灣太陽光電產業協會祕書長姜暭先指出，由於太陽能產業技術提升，太陽能模組每一瓦所需要的多晶矽，每一年都會減量，從早期的九公克，到三年前降低成五公克，現在只剩下四公克，單位面積發電量增加，需要的多晶矽卻變少了。只要多晶矽成長速度，大於太陽能面板成長速度時，供過於求的現象就不會改變。
