查雞角刺全株有毒，毒性成份未知，國內曾有民眾過量飲用雞角刺茶而產生嘔吐、頭暈，並產生腹部絞痛等中毒現象，呼籲糖尿病病友切勿相信來路不明的糖尿病治療商品廣告，以免花大錢又傷害自身健康。
