塑化劑濃度愈高(濃度約正常女童的1.2~2.4倍)，kisspeptin濃度愈高，而黃體激素及雌激素濃度也愈高，性早熟也愈加明顯。塑化劑會刺激人體一種叫“kiss 1”基因分泌一種特殊蛋白質“kisspeptin”，後者可刺激anterior pituitary gland釋放LH和FSH，促進性器官發育與生殖細胞成熟。
