台灣新冠肺炎疫情升溫，近日死亡人數也不斷飆升，從5月15日開始，截至6月5日已累積212人死亡，台灣新冠肺炎致死率更高達2.19％，遠超過其他國家的平均值。對此，指揮中心也做出回應，表示造成致死率較高有2大原因，大家也要去比較各國死亡族群的年齡分佈，數據才會更加公平。

張上淳表示，各國的死亡率數據計算，一定是各個年齡層都在，因此就科學上來講，沒辦法就這麼簡單做出比較。張上淳也指出，這次疫情高峰後死亡率確實是會偏高，可能也和醫療量能緊繃或多或少有關，因此各種因素集結，才會導致台灣近期死亡率高於全球平均。
