將蘋果跟馬鈴薯放一起可以預防馬鈴薯發芽。
成熟的蘋果會釋放乙烯，而這個關鍵就是抑制馬鈴薯芽眼處細胞產生生長素，當生長素累積不到足夠的量濃度時，馬鈴薯自然就不會發芽了，不過也不是永遠都不會發芽唷！這樣的保存方式大約可以維持７天左右。
